We’re Really Lacking a Formal Education on the Things that Matter

We can no longer rely on the vehicles that we used to — public schooling and higher education — to teach the coming generations principles that will help them build a fulfilling life.

I remember school fondly. It wasn’t perfect by any means but I can definitely recall teachers that showed their interest in truly helping me do well, and achieve my potential. I particularly remember my social studies and macro-economics teacher. He was/is a man I respect because he did not take any crap from the class clowns. But more importantly he cared. He could have ignored our bullsh*t, but instead he tried to educate us on the nuances of everyday life where none of that behavior would have been acceptable.

He genuinely tried to impart that to get respect you must first display it. And this helped me tremendously. Not that my parents did not teach me these principles but the reality was I spent the majority of my time at school, not at home. Therefore, school had a very big influence in my overall upbringing.

A lot of the things you mentioned, I didn't learn until I was a few years out of high school, like creating a resume & doing your Taxes. Thankfully, I was blessed to have people that cared enough to teach these important things.
