We Need to Stop Shaming People For Making Mistakes — They Are The Pathway to Creativity

There’s so much shaming and fear-mongering when it comes to admitting we make mistakes. So much that we try our hardest to never do anything new out of fear that we’ll be pointed to and laughed at, or worse, be reprimanded for it.

I felt this way all through my educational years, including when I pursued my degrees in higher education. The funny thing is many of my professors at my university were trying to do the one thing that we had been told not to be all throughout Middle School and High-school. Creative. I was starting to see myself develop in that area but then graduation occurred and I started working a full-time job. The fear-mongering came back as well as the shaming every time something went wrong, and upper-management or even the owner of the company himself took out his anger and frustration on the staff.

If you find yourself in an organization that prides itself over not making any mistakes, perhaps it’s time to rethink your stay there. But if you feel like you’re in a position where you cannot take the risk of leaving a company like that just yet, then I would recommend an outlet (like Medium) to be able to…
