To Develop My Creativity, I Had to Set Boundaries, Even From Myself

The concept of boundaries was foreign to me at a time where I thought I needed to do it all to be successful — I didn’t realize that in trying to master it all I was hindering my creativity, which would have done the one thing needed. To stand out among the crowd.

It’s funny looking back now. Today I consider myself to be the most creative I have ever been in my entire life; except when I was a kid, that was the time I let my imagination run wild — all of us did. As I grew up I let creativity take a back seat because to be ‘cool’ following the crowd was the way to go. Forcing myself to fit in but also fighting it at the same time because it was exhausting trying to fit into a box that had no space for all of me. Eventually, the ‘priorities’ of life took over, as I became an adult, and being imaginative or creative pretty much disappeared from my day-to-day life.

It wasn’t until I chose to pursue the entrepreneurial route that I was introduced to the concept of boundaries. Of setting up space and time for myself to think and let me be. It all started with setting some time aside in my day to read a book — It could be any book…
