The Power of a Good Counselor
The change I have made over the period of 1 year, plus.
Let’s be honest, I hated the idea of talking to a counselor. Because to me, it meant that I was not strong enough to deal with the emotional burden that problems carried. When people close to me, that I respected and admired, told me it was a good idea and they also attended counseling sessions, I spent about three months debating with myself until I finally caved.
In my first session I had to take a test, one that later on would reveal my temperaments. From what I have learned these are the traits, personality wise, that we are born with. Many of us have heard the story of putting two babies together and they will act differently, right? Well, that’s where this test stems from. This test is supposed to reveal to you qualities about yourself that you were born with, that are a part of you, that you will have for the rest of your life. I also learned that with time, conditioning, education, culture, and influence, layers are added on top which then becomes your overall personality. I hope I explained this in a way that makes sense because I’m still trying to fully wrap my head around it (it seems like so much!).
My counselor has been nothing but amazing. And I don’t say this because she has made the whole process, easy or painless. Every session I am…
