The Personal/Career Growth Journey is Never Linear
I don’t know where we got the idea that progress is supposed to be steady. Whoever convinced us was wrong.
I don’t know when this idea took hold, but somewhere along the line I was convinced that my progress, in any endeavor, was going to be linear. A nice, steady climb up to the top of the mountain. No bumps, valleys, or obstacles to speak of. That is until I became an adult and realized that all of that was false.
It wasn’t until I got connected with a group of business owners and entrepreneurs at Customize Your Life that I started to learn what progress looked like.
Suffice it to say, it’s not a predictable path. That was a tough pill to swallow because I’m someone who likes order and predictability, and this went against what made me comfortable. It’s why I initially pursued the typical career path. Go to school, keep good grades, and get a ‘good’ job. It painted a clear picture of what my future would look like. Except none of that happened after graduating.
I started working at a job that promised a lot but delivered very little. I was working long hours, feeling the candle burn at both ends. After a year, I had enough and decided to move on to a ‘nicer’ job. That comfort didn’t last long either because…
