I took a break from Medium for about two months…
I realized I needed the time away from writing and the pressure I was putting on myself to make something happen in this space.
In that time, I’ve gained some clarity, and I realized that all I simply wanted was to make some sort of significant amount of money from this platform (whatever ‘significant’ means — perhaps enough to pay at least one of my larger bills).
Making money online, or on my own terms, or however you want to describe it, is something I feel I’ve been pursuing for a long time.
The long pursued dream of entrepreneurship… perhaps we’ll get there one day.
But that’s not something I can control.
I can’t control whether someone clicks on my story and reads it from beginning to end.
I cannot control how Medium’s algorithm works with Publications (or not).
I can only control one thing, and that is what I write.
There’s tons of advice out there telling you to write what people want to read, and although that seems straightforward (to an extent), I don’t think most people even realize what they want to read.
