Is It Just Me or Does Dating Seem Terrifying???

Maybe it’s all in my head, but maybe we have a really toxic dating culture.

I want to preface this by letting you all know I have limited dating experience in all my 25 years of life (soon to be 26). I’ve always been very hesitant with creating and maintaining relationships (including friendships). And since romantic relationships and dating are on a different level of trust and intimacy (at least I believe they are), I’m very hesitant to go on dates and meet new people for romantic purposes. Call me a hermit, pessimist, extremist, asexual being; it’s what has been my system, or lack thereof when it comes to dating.

But in this day and age where we have not just information but people at the tips of our fingers, it seems that getting to know a person is as easy as just swiping right. But I ask, are we making genuine connections and developing real trust? I think the answer is no. I think that the people who can develop a deep level of trust, communication, and intimacy are more the exception than the rule, and it terrifies me.

Throughout my life, I’ve seen few examples of healthy, working, respectful relationships. It’s more now that I am getting to know couples who are doing the work to improve themselves and working together to go through that discovery and…
