I like the individual freedom, especially living in a city like NY. But I miss the sense of community from Colombia. There’s this culture of being close with your neighbors that I don’t see here and it’s a little sad to not have that. But overall I am pretty happy here in the US.
There’s definitely a big emphasis culturally on having kids, specially if you’re a woman. I do see some changes happening though because a lot of my girlfriends that live there don’t have kids at the moment. Same thing with guy friends. I think it’s partially due to some of the reasons you mentioned in your comments. And I think for a lot of friends it’s also the economic aspect of having children.
