‘Glow-Up’ Culture (and Trends) are Exhausting!

‘Glow-ups’ are just another excuse to overconsume.

Or trick other people into thinking that a physical transformation is the only glow-up that matters.

Don’t get me wrong, getting into better shape and improving your health is a fantastic thing.

I’ve experienced first-hand the effects of improving my health and well-being.

However, the physical effects of my ‘glow-up’ (I dislike calling my transformation a glow-up) didn’t start until I addressed the mental barriers that were holding me back.

Social media does a great job of skewing what’s truly important, including glow-ups.

If you log into your TikTok or Instagram, you’ll mostly see before and afters that only show a person’s outer appearance and the changes that took place.

Not that this isn’t a (mostly) positive sign of change; however, it doesn’t show any of us the whole story.

Heck, that person may have had a physical glow-up, but maybe not an internal one.

Maybe they’re still unhappy, feel unworthy, still struggle with anxiety, can’t stop comparing themselves, their health isn’t actually doing well, etc. (I mean, how would any of us know if a stranger on the internet is…
