Do Not let Your ‘Family’ Decide What Kind of Life You Should Live

How can someone make it through difficult times? What can a person do, hold on to, believe in when the life they are used to is falling apart?

I never thought I would be facing the situation I am currently in. Some of the closest, or what I thought to be some of the closest relationships in my life have disintegrated. Because of this, I've begun to question a lot of the aspects of my life that I thought to be absolutes. I once taught that family is EVERYTHING. But currently facing a very difficult family situation has me thinking otherwise. Because the people that I thought would give me the benefit of the doubt, a second chance, an opportunity to share my perspective, have done the complete opposite.

I thought that loving people and accepting them for who they are, no matter their faults, was enough to get the same in return. Turns out that’s not always the case. Some people are only happy as long as you do what’s necessary to keep them happy. This includes forgoing your own needs, aspirations, or your curiosity to see what other options exist out there in the world.
